If ChatGPT is where your captions get written, you know the ritual that follows: copy each one out, open the scheduler, paste, pick a time, attach the image, repeat. The writing takes ten minutes; the shuttling takes twenty.
With Nimply connected, the shuttling disappears. ChatGPT can save its own drafts into your Nimply workspace, schedule them across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Pinterest, and Threads, and pull the numbers afterward to tell you how the series performed. The connection is OAuth — you click, log in, approve, and never touch a key.
How the ChatGPT connector works
ChatGPT supports custom connectors built on the Model Context Protocol — external services whose tools ChatGPT can call during a conversation. Connectors are available on plans with connector support, with developer mode enabled, and once added they appear alongside ChatGPT's built-in tools.
Nimply's connector is a hosted MCP server, so there is nothing to run or install. When you add it, ChatGPT discovers Nimply's authorization server automatically; you log in, pick the workspace it may use, and approve a specific set of permissions. Everything ChatGPT does afterward is limited to that workspace and that permission set, and you can revoke the connection whenever you want.
What ChatGPT can do once Nimply is connected
Turn a planning chat into a saved series
Work out a five-post launch series with ChatGPT the way you already do — then, instead of copying the results anywhere, ask it to save them as drafts in Nimply. The ideas land in your workspace the moment the conversation ends, ready for review and scheduling.
Post to Instagram without leaving the chat
Once your Instagram channel is connected in Nimply, ChatGPT can create the post, set the caption, and schedule the slot from inside the conversation. The same goes for the other seven platforms — one connector covers your whole presence.
Check your numbers conversationally
Ask "what's my total follower count across channels, and how did engagement trend this month?" and ChatGPT queries Nimply's analytics for the answer. Performance review becomes a follow-up question in the same chat where you planned the content.
Keep a human in the loop
If you'd rather ChatGPT never publish directly, keep it on drafts: it prepares everything, and you (or a client) approve in Nimply before anything goes live. The permissions you grant at connection time draw the hard line — no publish permission, no publishing.
Connect ChatGPT to Nimply
You need a ChatGPT plan that includes custom connectors, with developer mode switched on, plus a Nimply workspace where you hold the OWNER or ADMIN role.
- 1
Enable developer mode
Custom connectors live behind developer mode. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connectors → Advanced and turn it on. If the option is missing, your plan does not include custom connectors.
- 2
Create the connector
Go to Settings → Connectors → Create (or Add custom connector) and enter the Nimply MCP server URL. When asked about authentication, choose OAuth — ChatGPT finds Nimply's authorization server on its own.
Server URLhttps://mcp.nimply.io/mcp - 3
Authorize your workspace
Log in to Nimply in the window that opens, pick the workspace ChatGPT may use, review the permissions, and click Allow access.
- 4
Enable it in a chat
Turn the connector on in your conversation — some plans require selecting it under Tools. Then test it with a real task, like planning a 5-post series about a launch and saving the posts as drafts in Nimply.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan for this?
You need a ChatGPT plan that supports custom connectors, and developer mode must be enabled under Settings → Connectors → Advanced. If the connector options are not visible, your current plan does not include them.
Does ChatGPT need a Nimply API key?
No. ChatGPT connects with OAuth: it discovers Nimply's authorization server from the URL, and you approve access by logging in. API keys are only for tools configured through files, like CLIs and editors.
Which platforms can ChatGPT post to through Nimply?
Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Pinterest, and Threads — whichever of them you have connected as channels in your Nimply workspace.
Can ChatGPT publish something I have not reviewed?
Only within the permissions you approved when connecting. Grant a narrower set and ChatGPT can draft but not publish; you can also ask it to save drafts only, or use Nimply's approval workflow so every post needs a human sign-off before it goes live.
The login window keeps looping and never finishes. What is wrong?
That is usually third-party cookies being blocked for the login window. Allow them for the authorization flow, then remove and re-add the connector.
ChatGPT says a tool call was denied — how do I fix it?
The permission set you approved does not cover that action. Remove the connector and reconnect, approving the fuller permission set this time.
